Chumash Heritage National Marine Sanctuary

Covering over 134 miles of coastline, the proposed Chumash Heritage National Marine Sanctuary would help support the health of our ancestral waters, preserve the rich biodiversity which include many cultural keystones species for Chumash people and coastal Native people, as well as put management decision-making power back into the hands of the Indigenous people who have long cared for this area of land.

Stay tuned for more updates as NOAA proceeds through the designation process!
