Wishtoyo’s Chumash Maritime Lifeways: Land and Water (CML) education program is a 3-hour field trip that integrates science education with Chumash culture within a traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) framework. At Wishtoyo, we believe that science is ceremony. 

Creating a personal connection to the environment during these impressionable years of youth is critical to raising a generation that values environmental stewardship. Ultimately, our children will be the ones to preserve and protect their right to being part of a healthy environment and community. 

This field trip offers an important indigenous perspective on the world—centering Chumash and Indigenous lifeways which are not often represented in standard school curricula. 

Each Chumash Maritime Lifeways field trip costs Wishtoyo approximately $1,500 to provide. Wishtoyo remains dedicated to serving all who want to participate, regardless of resources. By sponsoring a field trip, you are helping to subsidize this important experience for schools and students who are not able to otherwise participate.
